Jigsaw Puzzles - Waste of time or good for your brain?

I love doing jigsaw puzzles. However, whenever I do one, I always feel some guilt that I am wasting my time. I know I have a lot of other chores and errands to do, but I just can't keep away from the puzzle I'm working on. My husband teases me that he'll see me again in a couple days when I'm done with my puzzle. That is a fairly accurate assessment of my obsession. When I start a puzzle, I can't stop working on it until it is done.

Anyway, my neighbor told me that working on jigsaw puzzles is really good for your brain and helps prevent Alzheimer's disease. So, maybe I shouldn't feel so guilty about it...

So, what do you think? Am I spending hours doing something completely useless? Or am I making a long-term investment in my brain?
